Hankook Tire has been named as one of the companies listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World (DJSI World) for the fourth straight year. The 2019 DJSI World comprised 318 companies. There are only 19 Korean companies which made it to the index and Hankook was one of them. The 328 companies in the index account for 12.6 percent of the top 2,526 global companies.
Hankook was selected for this honor in the automotive components category based on its sustainability practices. It received a particularly good rating in the areas of corporate citizenship and philanthropy, supply chain management, and materiality.
The company has used seven CSR committees within the business to share its sustainability vision with its employees and conducts company-wide CSR activities. Hankook ensures that these initiatives percolate down to society by setting challenging goals around each committee and working in collaboration with various stakeholders.
The company instituted specific policies to secure the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the natural rubber value chain in 2018, and from that year onwards worked with a diverse supply chain to further enhance the quality of life of growers with regard to several aspects, including human rights, environmental protection, and transparency, as well as productivity and the quality of the natural rubber produced.
Hankook is also carrying out a project for to protect endangered species in Daejeon in partnership with six institutions with a view towards biodiversity management and restoration of the ecosystem.
Hankook Tire is involved in several corporate philanthropic projects to harmoniously coexist with the local community, like providing housing support for those who are less privileged and the DreamWith project, which was established with the purpose of strengthening local communities.
