Chery and Huawei’s Luxeed RX Launches in China — Could It Be Headed to the UAE?
The new Luxeed RX electric SUV has entered the Chinese market with a claimed range of up to 852 km and a lap time that beat the Xiaomi YU7 Max on a test track. It isn’t confirmed for the UAE yet, but Chery’s growing local presence makes it one to watch.

The launch
Luxeed, the joint venture between Chery and Huawei, opened sales of the RX in China on 28 September 2026. Pricing starts at an estimated $38,700, equivalent to approximately AED 142,100, and rises to an estimated $58,065, equivalent to approximately AED 213,100, for the top trim. For comparison, the Xiaomi YU7 starts lower, at an estimated $34,780, equivalent to approximately AED 127,650.

About the brand
Luxeed sits inside Huawei’s HIMA alliance, alongside brands like Aito, Stelato, Maextro and Saic’s Shangjie line. Before this launch, the RX had already drawn attention over a design dispute: a designer with past credits at Pininfarina, Ferrari and Saleen was linked to the car’s styling. The RX now joins Luxeed’s existing lineup, which includes the S7 sedan, the R7 coupe-SUV and the V9 minivan. Chery already has a dealer network in the UAE, which raises the question of whether Luxeed models could eventually follow.

Design
The RX takes an unusual approach for an electric SUV, with a long hood and a large gap between the dashboard and front axle, a look that has drawn comparisons to the Ferrari Purosangue. It measures approximately 5,020 mm long, 2,007 mm wide and 1,585 mm tall, on a 3,000 mm wheelbase, making it slightly longer than the Xiaomi YU7. Buyers can choose 20- or 22-inch wheels, with wider tires at the rear than the front. The taillights use thousands of small crystal-style elements arranged in a scattered pattern.

Inside the cabin
The interior is built around a large floating central screen (16.1 inches), a smaller passenger display, a digital instrument cluster, and a large head-up display. A camera-based rearview mirror replaces the traditional mirror.

For driver assistance, the car carries dozens of sensors and four lidar units, supporting a system that can handle point-to-point driving with the driver supervising rather than actively steering throughout.

The front seats stand out for their sensor count and adjustable air bladders, which let the seat reshape its support in real time based on how the car is driving and how the occupant is sitting, including extra side support in corners. The trunk holds a claimed 622 litres, plus a small hidden compartment, and can be opened hands-free with a knock gesture.

Structure and performance
Chery says the body uses a high proportion of high-strength steel and aluminium, reinforced with hot-formed steel sections, aimed at giving the SUV a stiff chassis to match its active suspension.

Two powertrain options are offered:
A single rear motor producing an estimated 371 hp
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing an estimated 586 hp combined

Three battery sizes are available, delivering an estimated range of 700 to 852 km depending on configuration. That range comfortably covers a Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi round trip, or Dubai to Al Ain, without a mid-trip charge.

On a timed lap of the Zhejiang International Circuit, the top RX Ultra+ trim posted a faster time than the Xiaomi YU7 Max, a rival often cross-shopped against it in China’s EV market. The Xiaomi YU7 GT was not included in that comparison.

Why UAE buyers might care
Chinese EV brands have been expanding quickly in the Gulf, and Chery is already established here through its regular lineup. If Luxeed follows, the RX would compete in a segment where SUV buyers value range, tech features and long-distance comfort, all things this car is built around. Nothing is confirmed yet, so treat this as a model to watch rather than one to shop for locally.
