XPeng’s New AI Flagship SUV, the G9L, Heads to 64 Markets — Paris Debut Set for October 12

XPeng has launched its next-generation flagship SUV, the G9L, in China, with a global rollout to 64 markets beginning at the Paris Motor Show. The car leans heavily on the same AI technology XPeng uses in its humanoid robots, and its global-market ambitions make it one worth watching for the UAE.

The launch

XPeng held the China launch event for the G9L in Beijing on 17 September 2026. The company confirmed the SUV will reach 64 markets worldwide, with a global launch event planned for 12 October at the Paris Motor Show, where XPeng will have a stand in Hall 6
.

What the G9L is

The G9L is XPeng’s new flagship SUV, offered in both fully electric (BEV) and range-extended electric (REEV) versions. It measures 5,120 mm in length with a 3,100 mm wheelbase, a proportion XPeng says gives it strong interior space alongside agile handling for its size.

The car is built around XPeng’s “physical AI” platform, the same underlying AI technology used across the company’s smart-driving systems, intelligent cabin features and even its humanoid robot, IRON. It runs on XPeng’s latest driving-assistance model, designed to adapt quickly across different regions and road conditions, and uses the same Turing AI chip found in the company’s robotics work.

Built to a global standard

XPeng describes the G9L as a genuine “global car,” developed to meet international safety and quality benchmarks rather than being adapted market by market after the fact. To back that up, the company says the SUV has been through 192 crash tests across four major international safety protocols, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, C-NCAP and CIASI, covering more than 110 individual test criteria. XPeng also says the car has completed over three years of road testing across 26 countries, accumulating more than 6.74 million kilometres of real-world driving.

Robots building robots

At the Beijing event, XPeng’s Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, also gave an update on the company’s humanoid robot programme, revealing that its first fully automated production line for general-purpose humanoid robots is now running, with robots assembling robots. He linked this directly to the G9L, framing the car and the robot as products of the same in-house AI foundation, under a “car as robot” philosophy.

Where it’s built

Production will run in two locations: Guangzhou, China, and Graz, Austria. The Graz plant, operated in partnership with manufacturing group Magna, will make the G9L the fourth XPeng model built there, following the G6, G9 and P7+. XPeng has been expanding this partnership since signing an agreement with Magna in September 2025, using Magna’s existing European lines to localise production, four models in a single year.

Why this matters for UAE buyers

XPeng hasn’t detailed UAE-specific plans for the G9L yet, but a few things make it worth following here:

• Regional expansion: Chinese EV brands, XPeng included, have been steadily building dealer and showroom presence across the Gulf, and a car built to 64-market global standards is a strong candidate for the region.
• Heat and durability testing: With road testing across 26 countries and over 6.74 million kilometres logged, buyers concerned about how an EV holds up in extreme heat may find that global testing history reassuring, though local verification would still matter.
• Tech-forward buyers: The UAE’s EV market has shown strong appetite for AI-driven features and smart cockpits, both central to how XPeng is positioning the G9L.
• REEV option: For buyers still cautious about charging infrastructure, the range-extended version could offer a middle ground between a full EV and a conventional car.

For now, the confirmed dates are China’s launch and the Paris debut on 12 October. Whether, and when, the G9L reaches UAE showrooms is something we’ll be watching closely.
