Schaeffler has revealed that it would be supplying its supplying its modular hybrid transmission to Ford and Lincoln vehicles like the 2020 Ford Explorer and the Ford Police Interceptor Utility, as well as the 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The modular hybrid transmission is one of Schaeffler’s latest E-Mobility technologies and facilitates hybridization for the SUV, truck and off-road vehicle segments, in addition to providing higher levels of power and torque.
Commenting on the development, Marc McGrath, CEO Schaeffler Americas said that electrification will play a key role in future mobility. By 2020, Schaeffler would have invested over 500 million euros in research, development and production of electric drive units to cater to the next-generation needs of customers. He went on to acknowledge Ford’s cooperation over the past four years in this project and expressed his gratitude to Ford for choosing Schaeffler to be a part of Ford’s industry leading future E-Mobility architecture.
The modular hybrid transmission will be manufactured at Schaeffler’s recently expanded facility in Wooster, Ohio which serves as the company’s hub in the United States its advanced E-Mobility development. In addition to the ICE or internal combustion engine mode, the modular hybrid transmission offers the electric drive, ICE + e-drive for optimal performance and recuperation modes.
The benefits the modular hybrid transmission offers include improved fuel economy, zero local emissions, instantaneous acceleration, an onboard generator; integrated torque converter and improved towing.
