Goodyear recently launched Kmax Extreme – a new range of truck tires that have been made speficially for use in conditions of extreme heat.
The new range of tires offers the promise of better wear, greater durability and lower operating costs. The range comprises KMAX S EXTREME steer tire, KMAX D EXTREME drive tire and KMAX T EXTREME trailer tire. These tires are meant for trucks which operate over long distances in multiple loading conditions and the key factor that affects the performance of these trucks is their long term resistance to heat. These tires offer the benefit of regular wear with the result being longer life and lower operating costs, and greater durability. They come with specially designed tread patterns and compounds for better resistance to abrasions in high temperatures and regular wear. The carcasses of the tyres have also been designed to withstand long life cycles in such conditions. .
Commenting on the Kmax Extreme range, Rupert Kohaupt Sales Director Truck Tires, Emerging Markets Goodyear EMEA said that the new range of truck tires have been developed for hot running conditions like those in the GCC region. The climatic conditions in this region generally have an adverse effect on the wear and durability of the tires. The new tires not only offset these issues but also help to save fuel and reduce operating costs.
The KMAX EXTREME tires feature tough carcasses with a construction that gives maximum performance and retreadability in addition to lower weight and outstanding durability. The tread compounds too have been specially developed for cool running. This will help to provide better under high temperature conditions and lower the rolling resistance to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Laurent Colantonio, Director Truck Tire Technology for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Said that a special feature of the KMAX S EXTREME steer tire is its IntelliMax Rib Technology. This feature improves the tracking and steering on the front axle, contributing to a shorter stopping distance and extending the mileage. The tread has been designed with stiffener bridges in the central grooves. These bridges connect when the tire rolls through the footprint so that the two central ribs can support each other. This makes the tread stiffer and lowers slip, especially when it comes to handling corners. Due to this new design, the tire is able to retain its design, steering precision and road holding throughout the life of the tread. The KMAX D EXTREME drive tire has also been designed for better and long lasting uniform wear, while delivering excellent fuel economy performance.
KMAX EXTREME tires are now available at the retail level. The steer and drive tires are available in size 315/80R22.5, and the trailer tire is in size 385/65R22.5, which are the most popular sizes. By late 2018, a 385/65R22.5 steer tire will become available. The K-Max Extreme is currently being considered by several manufacturers for OEM homologations.
