Lincoln is all set to debut a technologically innovative head-up display unit in its new Continental sedan. The new features in this unit can improve safety by a significant margin. A head-up display unit essentially creates an image that appears to float in the air before the driver as they look ahead through the windshield. This serves to minimize distraction as drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road to look at the instrument panel. The HUD displays vital statistics like the car’s speed and other key information.
The head-up display unit in the Lincoln displays metrics related to speed, external temperature, lane keeping assist indicator, and adaptive cruise control.
The new heads up display unit is different from similar units as Lincoln is the first brand to employ Digital Light Projection or DLP. This makes the projected light visible even to those motorists who wear polarized sunglasses. Hence, you don’t have to take off your sunglasses to view the HUD display.
Speaking about the new technology, Anthony king, a product designer for Lincoln said in a statement that the brand will be using a DLP chip from Texas Instruments, which will provide users with a display that is a lot brighter than those provided by other brands.
The new technology has another side benefit. It will help to keep cars cooler during the summer as infrared reflective coating is used on the windows, making the internal temperature lower.
