The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. Has announced that it has been supplying its “Avid GT” tires to Porsche AG from July. The tires are being used as original equipment on the Cayenne premium SUV. Porsche has been using Yokohama tires OE on the brand’s original equipment tire right from the time the SUV was first launched.
The new Porsche Cayenne is the third vehicle to sport tires from Yokohama. The “Avid GT” tire is the first all-season tire from Yokohama that Porsche has used as original equipment. The tire will be used in either the 20-inch size or 21-inch size in the new Cayenne SUV.
The Cayenne SUVs with 20-inch tires will have 275/45R20 110V size front tires and 305/40R20 112V rear tires. Cayenne SUVs having 21-inch tires will be fitted with 285/40R21 109V size front tires and 315/35R21 111V rear tires. The third edition of the Cayenne has been available at the global level from the end of 2018.
Yokohama developed the “Avid GT” tire using the basic design and material technologies that were seen in the tire manufacturer’s “environmentally, human, and socially friendly” BluEarth tire. The “Avid GT” tire was specifically developed to deliver a safe drive, even in snowy conditions and bears the “M+S” (mud & snow) marking on its sidewall. The tire also delivers a high level of fuel efficiency for the vehicle while providing superior drivability and safety. Yokohama worked with Porsche on the development of the OE tire and the “N0” mark on the side of each tire indicates Porsche’s approval.
The core goal of Yokohama’s Grand Design 2020 (GD2020) future- oriented strategy is the expansion of its presence in the premium tire markets for its consumer tire business. One of the specific strategies the company is employing is its “premium-car tire strategy”, which involves increasing use of Yokohama’s tires as OE on premium cars in Japan and overseas. This is carried out by making Yokohama Rubber the tire maker of choice by automotive manufacturers across the globe in recognition of its technologies and quality.
