The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance has announced that it would be collaborating with Didi Auto Alliance to pursue new smart mobility solutions in China.
The Didi Auto Alliance is an intelligent ride-sharing alliance that was initiated by Didi. The goal of the alliance is to unite all its members to transform the business model of the automotive industry and become the largest full-capacity vehicle operator platform in the world.
Ogi Redzic, senior vice-president of Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services for Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, said like Didi, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance had a vision of clean, safe mobility for all. For Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, China is a key market and the alliance plans to work closely with leading players in the market like Didi to shape the future of smart mobility in China.
Cheng Wei, founder and CEO of Didi, said that as part of the partnership, Didi would be providing services like auto leasing and sales, auto finance, auto service, fleet operation and car-sharing solutions to its partners. The ultimate goal is to create more value for the company’s partners, user community, and society.
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi had signed an MoU with Didi back in February this year to explore the likelihood of cooperation in the future for a new electric vehicle car-sharing program in China. Other aspects the new collaborators will explore include the launch of robo-vehicle ride-hailing services, as part of the Alliance 2022 strategic midterm plan launched last year by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
By the end of its strategic plan, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance plans to launch 12 pure electric models on a global basis, by using common EV platforms and components, and also has plans to launch 40 vehicles with autonomous drive technology globally and to develop robo-vehicle ride-hailing services.
The Alliance had also recently launched Alliance Ventures, a new corporate venture capital fund that will invest up to USD 1 billion to support open innovation in the field of mobility over the next five years.
