BASF will be setting up a new production facility for mobile emissions catalysts at its Pudong site in Shanghai, China. The new factory which will cover 30,000 square meters will house multiple manufacturing lines. These lines will produce BASF’s full range of emissions control technologies for both heavy-duty and light-duty vehicle manufacturers.
The factory will specialize in the production of catalysts for both petrol and diesel vehicles in the growing Chinese market. The catalysts will cater to the needs of automotive customers who need to meet more stringent emission control requirements in the runup to China Stage 6 implementation in 2020. BASF’s FWC (Four-Way Conversion) catalyst has the capability to remove particulate matter in addition to other pollutants like carbon monoxide, Hydrocarbons and Nitrogen Oxides from the exhaust produced by petrol engines in a single component
Dr Stephan Kothrade, president functions Asia Pacific, president and chairman Greater China, BASF said that BASF wants to contribute to China’s three-year plan to protect blue skies, with advanced mobile emissions catalysts that confirm to China’s strictest environmental regulations.
Dr Dirk Demuth, senior vice president, Mobile Emissions Catalysts, BASF said that the company’s new facility in China will make it possible for BASF to support its customers in the rapidly growing Chinese market. The new facility will offer scope for future expansion and upgrades in order to adapt to market requirements in the coming years.
