TactoTek, a leading player in Injection Molded Structural Electronics (IMSE) solutions, has teamed up with Quin GmbH to make luxury natural wood trim for car interiors. Quin GmbH specializes in premium trim parts in wood, aluminum, foil, and high quality plastics for luxury cars and the two companies will work together on developing natural wood trim which integrates real wood veneers with capacitive touch controls and illumination in a seamless, single piece structure.
The use of luxurious natural and synthetic materials which integrates luxury natural and synthetic materials aligns well with the key automotive industry design trends of optimizing space utilization and lightweighting. The focus is on making cockpits comfortable, stylish spaces for active drivers and autonomous vehicles.
Commenting on the deal, Jussi Harvela, CEO of TactoTek said that Quin is renowned for its trim parts in vehicles from Premium OEMs. Pairing Quin’s elegant wood surfaces with intuitive controls offers users visual appeal along with functionality. This is a combination that drivers and passengers have already come to expect from their use of mobile devices and other electronics. According to Harvela,the deal highlights the scope of applications for IMSE technology.”
IMSE solutions often use plastic IML film for the cosmetic surface. Quin has showcased its ability to use natural wood as the cosmetic surface, and finish that surface to the highly rigorous standards needed for parts.
Klaus Bieniek, Head of Pre-development department at Quin said that the company has simplified vehicle integration by encapsulating the complexity of electronics within a beautiful, light and thin, structural part.
Bieniek concluded, “We can now show similar designs with plastic and wood surfaces, so the solution is relevant across vehicle trim levels. We intend to continue our collaboration with TactoTek to expand our range of use cases and surface material offerings.”
