Yokohama Tire has launched a new tire for port applications. Called RR42, the new tire has been designed specifically for use in IND-4 straddle carriers and according to the tire manufacturer, the new radial tire is more durable, offers longer wear and supports more ton-mile per hour. Currently, the RR42 tire is available in size 16.00R25.
Tom Clauer, Yokohama Tire senior manager of commercial and OTR product planning said that the RR42 tire has been engineered to handle rigorous operation in port facilities. In such an environment, the quality of the tire plays a critical role in managing increased container volumes. According to Yokohama, some of the benefits that the new tire offers include:
• Long, even wear. Vibration is also kept to minimal levels thanks to the new tread pattern and two optimized circumferential grooves. • The tire dissipates heat efficiently through specially designed grooves in the center rib and hence offer higher TMPH (ton-mile per hour). • The tire offers greater level of resistance to cuts and chips with support from dual sidewall protectors. • The tire sports a fortified bead area that is reinforced by the RR42’s casing profile. This casing profile has been optimized to reduce lateral deflection.
Clauer concluded, “The RR42’s long-lasting tread will assure improved uptime and value to every port’s operation.”
