Yokohama Tire Corp.has added an LX variant to tits Avid Ascend range of touring tires for passenger cars, crossovers and minivans. The LX tire delivers better all-season performance and a longer treadlife Customers who buy the LX tire will also benefit from an 85,000-mile limited treadwear warranty, which is available on all 39 T-, H- and V-rated sizes. Yokohama will make the tire at its factory in Salem, Virginia. The tire is meant for use in passenger cars, minivans and crossovers and is available in sizes that fit rim diameter sizes ranging from 15- to 18-inches.
They start at 185/60R15 and run up to 235/45R18.
Commenting on the new tire, Bob Abram, Yokohama’s senior manager of consumer product planning said that it rounds off the brand’s Avid line and is the most complete touring tire that is currently available. He said, “It gives people what they want: Exceptional all-season traction and comfort backed by an amazing mileage warranty.”
The Ascend LX features has the following notable features:
• Thanks to Yokohama’s use of its “L-2” tread compound, the tire offers longer tread life, greater resistance to wear resistance, and has a wide, flat contour remarkable for its large footprint so that pressure distribution is even; • The tire has four wide circumferential grooves for a higher level of wet traction as well as lateral grooves for better evacuation of water and better hydroplaning resistance; • The wavy 3D sipes on the shoulder and notches in the intermediate ribs provide better winter traction and a more robust grip on wintery roads; • There is minimal tire noise due to an offset tread design that is staggered in a five-block sequence.
The Ascend LX complements Ascend GT tire which is positioned as an all-season “grand” touring tire for luxury sports sedans and coupes and replaced the Avid ENVigor. According to Yokohama, there is now greater demand for H- and V-rated touring tires while demand has dropped for T-rated tires and below. The GT and LX Avid Ascend tires enhance Yokohama’s range of H- and V-rated tires with the LX for those who focus on mileage and the GT for those who are seeking a more even balance between grip and mileage.
