Nokian Tyres has received approval from the BMW Group for its WR D4 winter tyre. The tyre has been approved as the original equipment for BMW X1, a high performance SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) for which the Nokian WR D4 tyre is to be used in the size 225/55 R17 97H.
The Nokian WR D4 is a new-generation winter tyre that was specifically developed by Nokian Tyres for use in Central European weather conditions. The tyre delivers outstanding grip and comfortable handling even at high speeds. The tyre confirmed to the BMW Group’s stringent criteria for OE approval and is meant for motorists drivers who are looking for quality as well as style and safety in a tyre.
Nokian went to great lengths in order to get the BMW Group’s approval, as the Nokian WR D4 tyre had to undergo the company’s comprehensive testing programme. The testing is meant to ensure that the tyre is just the right choice for a premium vehicle as it allows the driver to get the optimal performance from both the vehicle and its tyres.
Nokian Tyres has been actively collaborating with leading car manufacturers for a long time, especially in the Nordic region. The approval from the BMW Group will help Nokian to expand its presence in Central Europe, which is the largest market in the world for winter tyres and hence is one of the key markets that Nokian Tyres has targeted for sales growth.
Commenting on the OE approval, Group Sales Manager Markus Honkala, Nokian Tyres said that the achievement highlighted the fact that, as the world’s northernmost tyre manufacturer, the quality of the tyres made by the company is highly valued. He said that the approval represents a significant step for the company in terms of developing its OE activities and steering further growth.
The winter tyres that are to be delivered to the BMW Group will made at Nokian factory in Finland, the place where the winter tyre was first conceptualized and produced 80 years ago.
