Nokian Tyres has announced that it would be continuing its partnership with the World Orienteering Championships in its role as the title sponsor. Following on from the sponsorship deal it had for sponsorship of the event in 2016 and 2017, Nokian Tyres has signed a multi-year contract with the International Orienteering Federation.
Nokian Tyres has proved to be a sustainability pioneer in the tyre industry with its range of safe and eco-friendly tyres. The company has significant expertise in developing products that are capable of tackling a wide range of terrains and weather conditions. This is why the partnership between Nokian Tyres and the IOF is a good fit.
Commenting on the deal, Nokian Tyres’ Vice President of Marketing and Communications Antti-Jussi Tähtinen said that the company’s interest in orienteering is based upon an excellent alignment of the values the company stands for with the global orienteering community and the nature of the sport itself.
He said that events like the World Orienteering Championships and World Orienteering Day provided the tyre manufacturer with an exciting platform to showcase the brand. He also said that Nokian was intrigued by the possibilities in development projects within orienteering.
The main purpose of the new agreement is to provide Nokian Tyres with a higher level of market visibility as the title sponsor of the World Orienteering Championships and an IOF Main Partner. The agreement will also expand the cooperation as Nokian Tyres will become involved in the IOF development project World Orienteering Day, as well as other IOF events, like the IOF Orienteering World Cup.
Speaking about the renewal of the sponsorship, IOF CEO Tom Hollowell said, “We are extremely pleased to have Nokian Tyres as our title partner for the World Orienteering Championships. We were in agreement early on about the value we have been able to deliver in the first two years and that Nokian Tyres wished to continue. Through our discussions we have identified a number of areas where our cooperation can be developed and improved and we look forward to providing even more value in the upcoming years.”
The 2018 Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships will be held in Riga and Sigulda, Latvia from August 4 to August 11, 2018.
