One of the leading players in the field of automotive interiors, Chinese manufacturer Yanfeng Automotive Interiors (YFAI) has opened a new plant in Serbia. The official opening of the new factory was a high-profile event that was attended by high-ranking officials and industry representatives. The plant is located in Serbia’s Sumadija district and will have a production area that covers 18,500 square meters.The main reason given for selecting this site were the availability of skilled workers in the Kragujevac region and the access to good infrastructure. It is also a central location in Southeast and Central Europe and is close to other YFAI plants in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Currently, the new factory has a workforce of 180 employees and once it reaches its full capacity, it is expected that the plant will create 800 jobs in the years to come.
The company said that the “state-of-the-art” facility in Kragujevac is expected to considerably enhance the company’s manufacturing capacity in eastern Europe. According to Tony Elenbaas, vice president and general manager, Europe & South Africa, Yanfeng Automotive Interiors, the new factory will help the company to increaseg its capacity to cater to the needs of its customers which have expanded their presence in the region.
Yanfeng Automotive Interiors is headquartered in Shanghai and currently has production facilities in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in Europe. On a global basis, the company has a manufacturing footprint that comprises 110 manufacturing units and technical centers spread across 20 countries and employs over 32,000 people.
Yanfeng Automotive Interiors is a joint venture between automotive components giant Yanfeng, and Adient, an Ireland-based automotive seating specialist.
The company makes components for cockpits, instrument panels, door panels, decorative trims and lighting technologies.
