Meyle, the Hamburg based manufacturer of automotive spare parts has been supporting the men’s handball team of FC. St. Pauli as part of a community outreach program. Meyle was the main sponsor of the team from the 2016/2017 season, and the German handball team will be rounding off their current season with a two-week trip to Rwanda in August. Working along with the Gorilla handball club, which is Rwanda’s largest handball club, the FC St.Pauli club will organize workshops with training sessions, friendly games and visits to different communities in the country.
The motto of this project is “We’ll never play alone“, and this project is meant to be an example when it comes to community outreach programs by creating more openness and promoting better understanding between the cultures. FC St.Pauli will shortly launch a crowdfunding website to collect donations and to fund the trip and local activities.
Commenting in the trip to Rwanda, team Captain Arne Dohren said, “We asked ourselves whether we could combine the trip we make at the end of the season – something many teams plan – with doing something to help others. He expressed his hope that the team’s project would motivate and encourage other clubs to plan and become involved in similar activities.
This project is one that Meyle has welcomed and supported. Meyle not only made a generous donation to fund the trip but also arranged for the transport of handball equipment to Rwanda. One of Meyle’s clients has taken on the task of ensuring local mobility of the team by providing vehicles and organizing local coordination.
André Sobottka, Meyle board member in charge of Sales, Marketing and Communications said that as the main sponsor of the team, Meyle was very pleased to be contribute not only financially to this project but also to lend logistical support and assistance with country-specific planning and procedures through the company’s contacts.
