Magna, which is one the largest automotive suppliers in the world will be organizing a new global automotive design contest with the winner getting a ‘Global Bold Perspective Award’. Larry Erickson, global director of the Magna Exteriors Design Group, launched the first edition of the Global Bold Perspective Award at the Car Design News LA Forum during the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Magna Global Bold Perspective Award is being instituted with the goal of generating innovating designs which will challenge conventional designs. As part of the design contest, the vehicle designers of the future will be asked to convey their take on a future vehicle. The company is seeking entries from students across the world and the winner of the award will be declared at 2019 Car Design News LA Forum during the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Erickson, said that the company is always looking into the future to understand how innovations with regard to materials, surfaces and technology can have an impact on automotive design in the future and thus help automotive companies to achieve their design goals. In the past few years, Magna has seen that students sometimes come up with designs having features and shapes that might be at odds with conventional methods of styling and assembling automobiles. The contest will serve as a venue for such students to share their future vision of where automotive exterior design is headed in the future, in order to inspire Magna to be bolder in its innovations for its customers.
Students from China, North American and Europe can submit their entries for the Global Bold Perspective Award. The winner from each region will receive a cash prize and a trip to the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. The overall winner will be announced at the 2019 Car Design News LA Forum, and will receive an additional cash prize.
Chris Maillard, Car Design News Editor-in-Chief, commented, “Collaborating with Magna to collect futuristic designs from talented young designers around the world and provide a venue to showcase the very best is an exciting project for our publication.
