Harman, which is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co has finalized a strategic partnership with Innoviz to make Innoviz’s high-performing, solid-state and mass-producible LiDAR solutions available to OEMs on a global basis. HARMAN will use Innoviz’s LiDAR solutions to strengthen its position as a leading provider of products and technologies that vehicle manufacturers can use to enhance vehicle safety, perception, connectivity and experience. Harman will mainly use Innoviz’s LiDAR solutions to enhance its current ADAS and automated driving technologies so that in the long run, the company would be able to aim for Levels 3-5 automation.
Commenting on the partnership, Mike Peters, President, Connected Car, HARMAN International said that the partnership between the two companies reflects Harman’s current leadership in providing high-quality perception solutions as well as its dedication to the development of autonomous vehicles in the next few years. He went on to express his hope that together, the two companies would be able to bring about change on a global scale, while in the process benefitting their customers and supporting the automotive industry’s increasing focus on both semi- and fully-autonomous vehicles.
Through this partnership, Harman will make available to OEMs InnovizOne, a solid-state LiDAR sensor that is meant to be used specifically in automobiles and can cater to the mass-production needs of auto companies. The LiDAR sensors that Innoviz makes create dense 3D point clouds while its perception software facilitates outstanding object detection, classification and tracking at long distances. The product has the capability to meet all of the needs of the automotive industry in terms of performance, reliability, cost, compact size and product maturity, and can be effectively used in next generation autonomous vehicles.
“Partnering with HARMAN marks a significant milestone for Innoviz,” said Omer Keilaf, CEO and Co-Founder of Innoviz. “HARMAN serves as a strategic gateway to OEMs pursuing ADAS and autonomous driving technologies that are in desperate need of a sensing solution that delivers unrivaled performance in a low-cost device that is available now. Innoviz has long served as a lighthouse in the LiDAR space, leading the pack with OEM design wins and Tier 1 supplier partnerships – and HARMAN helps strengthen that lead by offering Innoviz’s LiDAR solutions.”
Innoviz showcased its solutions at the CES show in Las Vegas and the company’s InnovizOne automotive-grade solid-state LiDAR was a winner of the 2019 CES “Best of Innovation award.
