Leading automotive component supplier Denso Corporation has announced that it would be collaborating with electronics and ceramics company Ibiden Co in a capital and business alliance to develop next-generation vehicle exhaust systems.
Ibiden has considerable expertise in high-performance ceramic materials and Denso is very good in developing products as systems. The two partners expect to create synergy in their bid to develop exhaust systems that are high-performance but simple and economical. Denso will acquire shares of Ibiden through a third-party allocation. The two companies will also be collaborating in the area of vehicle electrification to make electric powertrains more efficient in view of the growing demand for electric vehicles.
Vehicle emission norms have become increasingly stringent across the world and this has caused more automotive manufacturers and tier one suppliers to focus on making internal combustion engines more efficient. The partnership between Denso and Ibiden will allow the two companies to pool their key strengths in order to expedite the development of high-performance vehicle exhaust systems for internal combustion engines, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid engines.
Denso has designed and developed system components for better control over the intake, power and exhaust processes in the operating cycle of petrol and diesel engines. Ibiden is one of the leading companies in ceramics and has developed high-performance ceramic materials, like those sued for diesel particulate filters (DPF), that are employed in the exhaust system of diesel engines.
