BYD has launched the Great Han EV, a 5.26-metre flagship electric sedan, in China. It offers up to 1,008 km of CLTC range from a 102.3 kWh Blade Battery, claimed 10-97% charging in nine minutes, and a starting price of about $35,200 (about AED 129,300).
The launch
BYD launched the Great Han EV on 13 October 2026. It is the first D-segment flagship sedan in BYD’s Dynasty family, sits above the existing Han, and is the sedan counterpart to the Great Tang SUV. Pre-sales opened on 21 August at the Chengdu Auto Show. BYD has also applied for approval of a plug-in hybrid version but hasn’t announced prices for it.
Variants and prices (China)
- LiDAR Premium (rear-wheel drive): about $35,200 (about AED 129,300), 1,008 km CLTC range, 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds
- LiDAR Flagship (rear-wheel drive): about $37,300 (about AED 137,000), 1,008 km CLTC range, 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds
- LiDAR Flagship (all-wheel drive): about $41,200 (about AED 151,300), 880 km CLTC range, 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds
The launch prices are lower than the pre-sale prices, which is common in China.
Battery, power and charging
- Battery: a 102.3 kWh second-generation Blade Battery (lithium iron phosphate), standard on all variants
- Power: 370 kW (496 hp) and 500 Nm in the single-motor versions, and 570 kW (about 764 hp) in the all-wheel-drive version
- Range: up to 1,008 km on China’s CLTC cycle, which is roughly 816 km on the WLTP cycle, and 880 km CLTC for the all-wheel-drive version
- Flash Charging: BYD claims 10% to 70% in five minutes and 10% to 97% in nine minutes, but only with compatible high-power chargers. The sedan uses a 1,000-volt architecture.
Size and design
The Great Han is about 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase and a claimed drag coefficient of 0.197. It seats five and weighs between 2.2 and 2.5 tonnes. The design uses BYD’s “Loong Face” front end with narrow headlights and a chrome grille. A LiDAR sensor sits on the roof, and wheels are 20 or 21 inches.
Where it fits
BYD is filling a gap in its line-up at around the 300,000 yuan price point, creating a clearer ladder alongside its Denza and Yangwang brands. A flagship sedan with this range at this price is aimed at buyers who would otherwise look at much more expensive premium EVs.
What it means for the UAE
I found no BYD announcement of export plans or UAE availability for the Great Han. A claimed 1,008 km CLTC range would cover several Dubai to Abu Dhabi round trips, but real-world range will be lower, especially in summer heat with the air conditioning running. The nine-minute charge also needs very high-power chargers, and I found no announcement of such chargers for the UAE.
