Borgward celebrated the production milestone of 100,000 cars with a gala event at its factory in Beijing on June 28. The event which was based on the theme ‘You raise me up’ was attended by Borgward employees, owners of Borgward vehicles, distributors, suppliers and members of the media. The company also used the occasion to showcase the strong safety features of Borgward models.
Borgward was established in 1919 by German engineer Carl Borgward, and was dormant for a while before being revived in 2005 with a Brand Revival Plan in 2005. The milestone production event is seen as one of the successful outcomes of this plan and Borgward has emerged as a rising star in the global car market.
Borgward used the occasion to highlight its state-of-the-art production facility, which exemplifies Sino-German cooperation in the field of smart manufacturing. The factory was chosen as the “Pilot Demonstration Project of the 2017 Sino-German Cooperation on Smart Manufacturing” and follows the philosophy behind the German-led initiative ‘Industry 4.0’. It utilizes a smart manufacturing system that focuses on flexible, precise and rigorous production. The 8-model flexible production line is a key component that made it possible for Borgward to produce 100,000 high-quality cars in just two years. All these cars cleared rigorous tests and achieved 100 per cent rating in terms of quality.
The milestone event served as a platform for Borgward to showcase the dual safety features of the car, both with regard to time and space. Customers will benefit from all time protection thanks to the 16-electronic security configurations on all series of vehicles and the 4 MAX smart full-time all-wheel-drive system, which makes it possible for motorists to respond instantaneously to diverse road situations within a window of 0.12 seconds. In the event of an accident, it takes only 1.6 seconds for the airbag to deploy and for the vehicle to use ECALL to place a Borgward Rescue Call. This call can be performed even when the vehicle is powered off.
Borgward uses 1500 Mpa ultra-high-strength steel for the strengthened A-pillar and B-pillar steel plates as well as the front anti-collision beam in its vehicles. The high-strength steel accounts for as much as 79 per cent of the entire vehicle body. The company uses high-performing materials like double-sided galvanized steel plates with 12 years anti-corrosion duration and integrated vehicle doors. The vehicle body has increased rigidity of over 30 per cent to ramp up the safety factor. The car also features very minimal chemical compound of formaldehyde concentration as low as 0.02g/m3 or only a quarter of the German standard.
The production of the 100,00th car attests to the advances Borgward has made in its smart manufacturing capabilities and the recognition it has received from customers for its high-quality vehicles.
