Kia EV6 GT Wins a Five-Car Performance EV Test in Germany, Ahead of the Tesla Model Y Performance

Kia says its EV6 GT has won a five-model high-performance electric car comparison by German magazine auto motor und sport, scoring 585 points and beating the Tesla Model Y Performance, Zeekr 7GT, Polestar 4 and BYD Sealion 7.

The result

All five cars in the test were dual-motor, all-wheel-drive EVs, tested through measured performance and handling runs and assessments of driving characteristics, charging and everyday usability. The magazine’s final ranking was:

  1. Kia EV6 GT: 585 points
  2. Tesla Model Y Performance: 576 points
  3. Zeekr 7GT Privilege AWD: 569 points
  4. Polestar 4 Coupé Dual Motor: 531 points
  5. BYD Sealion 7 AWD Excellence: 508 points

Why the Kia won

The magazine put the EV6 GT’s win down mainly to its driving behaviour, praising its precise cornering, steering feedback and stability, and saying it was the most stable car in the group in demanding conditions. It led three measured tests:

  • Braking from 100 km/h: the shortest stopping distance, at 34.5 metres
  • 18-metre slalom: the highest speed, at 67.6 km/h
  • Double lane-change: the highest speed, at 132.9 km/h

The test also recognised its regenerative braking options, equipment and relatively straightforward controls. Reports on the test say the Kia scored highest in the safety, powertrain and driving-performance categories, with a powertrain rated at up to 650 hp.

What Kia says

Sang Un Cho, Kia’s Senior Vice President and head of global business planning, said the EV6 GT embodies Kia’s GT philosophy of a rewarding, sustainable driving experience, and that the result supports Kia’s aim of combining electric performance with everyday usability.

How to read it

This is one magazine’s test, and the announcement comes from Kia. The cars were scored across seven categories, including body, safety, comfort, powertrain, driving performance, environmental friendliness and running costs, and the Kia’s win rests largely on its handling. For UAE buyers, the useful takeaway is how the Chinese rivals from Zeekr and BYD stacked up against Kia and Tesla in a German road test.
