Just recently, Ohio-based Kamco Industries has breathed new life into a vacant factory in Morenci with the expansion of its operations in the area.
Bryan Barshal, vice president of accounting and human resources at Kamco, revealed that the company unveiled its production line of injection molding component for the automotive industry in the first week of April with 25 employees. He added that the facility is anticipated to expand its employment base to 60 by autumn.
“This is a great opportunity for us to expand. “We are looking forward to being a part of the community and producing excellent automotive parts.”
Kamco officials started exploring expansion into the 80,000-square-foot plant at 601 S. East St. in Morenci in March last year. In October, Kamco obtained a $250,000 state grant to help with job training for 60 employees.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. said that Kamco selected Michigan over other locations in the Midwest.
In a statement, Morenci City Administrator Michael Sessions, said that the city is thrilled that Kamco selected Morenci for its operations. He noted that Kamco is a community-oriented business and they are thrilled to see the impact it would have on the local economy. “This type of business is something we wanted for a long, long time to improve the community and be a benefit to all our residents. We are thrilled, excited and honored to have their investment here.”
