The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced it has begun supplying its “ADVAN Sport V105” tires to the BMW Group in Germany for use as the original equipment (OE) tire on BMW’s M Performance variant of the X5. The X5 M Performance model will be fitted with front tires in size 275/40R21 107Y and rear tires in 315/35R21 111Y size. The X5 M Performance made its debut at the retail level in markets around the globe in November 2018.
The “ADVAN Sport V105” is positioned as a high-performance tire that Yokohama Rubber developed specifically for use on high-power premium automobiles. The tire offers motorists high levels of safety and comfort in combination with excellent driving performance. Yokohama Rubber developed the tires for the BMW X5 M Performance model after working in close collaboration with the BMW Group and the tires sport BMW’s star mark symbol of approval on the tire sidewall. The “ADVAN Sport V105” that Yokohama will be supplying to BMW for the new X5 M Performance model come with SILENTFOAM, a specially designed polyurethane foam that is attached to the inside of the tire. SILENTFOAM minimizes tire cavity resonance, the term used for the sound made inside the tire as the outcome of the vibration created when it runs over uneven road surfaces. Tire cavity resonance is then transmitted to the passenger compartment through the suspension. Tire noise is a key consideration for tire manufacturers as it can affect the quality of the ride.
Yokohama Rubber has clearly stated that one of the key goals of its three-year medium-term management plan, GD2020, which was launched in February 2018, is to expand the company’s presence in the premium tire markets. One of the specific strategies for achieving that goal is the “premium-car tire strategy”. The aim of this strategy is to increase the use of YOKOHAMA tires as OE on premium cars in Japan and overseas by making Yokohama Rubber the tire maker of choice for leading automakers across the globe.
