Triangle Tyre has taken a big step forward by making its first 63-inch OTR radial tire. A tire of this size is standard fitment for most big vehicles used in the mining sector. In view of the relatively small number of customers who need such tires and technical expertise needed to make such tires, only a few tire manufacturers across the world make 63 inch tires. Now Triangle Tyre has joined this very select group.
The Chinese tire manufacturer put the finishing touches to its first 63-inch tire at the Triangle (Weihai) Huasheng Tire Co., Ltd plant on 28 March in the presence of the chairman of the Triangle Group Ding Yuhua, key executives belonging to the senior management team and special invitees from the media. A 53/80R63 giant OTR tire is massive in size, weighing in at 5.6 tons and able to support a weight as high as 82.5 tons at a maximum speed of up to 50 km/h or 31 mph. Generally, tires of this size are used for rigid dump trucks that transport loads exceeding 300 tons. According to Triangle, the 63-inch tire comes with outstanding traction due to its deep tread pattern, in addition to providing extended tire life, high levels of driving comfort and low fuel consumption.
Triangle made its first OTR tire in November 2002 and made improvements in the segment ever since, further refining the materials, structure and patterns used in its OTR tire through technical innovations.
The company’s engineering team is devoted to developing in-house core technologies and applying them to both processes and products and this is how Triangle developed the capability to make high quality radial jumbo OTR tires that now range in size from 49-inches to 63-inches. The company’s success in the OTR category is highlighted by the number of fitments it has earned from key players in the heavy industrial vehicle segment. Currently, Triangle has partnerships with companies like Daewoo, Volvo, Caterpillar, Terex, Liebherr, Doosan and GM.
