Currently, the US truck tire project, is in a pilot stage and is meant to help the company formulate the best strategy for local product development, sales, and distribution of Pirelli truck tires in the local market. As part of the project, more than 40 fleets are involved in the testing and development of new commercial truck tires that will be customized for the North American market.
Clif Armstrong has been appointed to spearhead the pilot project and is the President of TP Commercial Solutions LLC. He is a veteran of the commercial tire industry and has experience of more than two decades in this segment including a stint as a senior manager in Continental Tire’s truck tire pision. He will work out of Pirelli’s North American headquarters in Rome, Georgia.
Speaking about Pirelli’s entry into the North American truck tire market, Armstrong said that Pirelli will be focusing on premium tires that have been customized for the North American market, just like it did for the car and light truck market. The Pirelli tires will be adapted to meet the specifications and demands of the market as the North American fleets have unique needs which call for distinctive sizes, designs, and compounding to deliver the level of premium performance for which Pirelli tires are known all over the world.
He added, “ Entering this market is no easy task, but with the strength of our future product portfolio coupled with the extensive research and development we are devoting to the project, we will provide North American fleets best in class cost performance and services.”
Pirelli has truck tire manufacturing facilities in Brazil, China, Egypt, and Turkey.
