Nynas has made a new high-performance process oil grade. The Swedish manufacturer of specialty naphthenic oils and bitumen products has added the new oil called Nytex 846 to its product range. Nytex 846 can help customers reduce the rolling resistance of tires as part of their drive to increase fuel economy.
Like pure naphthenic oils, Nytex 846 offers high compatibility with polar and non-polar rubber, is easy to process and has excellent low-temperature properties. The product also has low color and thus it can be used in the formulation of innovative end products within the full color range.
Dr Herbert Fruhmann, global marketing manager for tire and rubber oils at Nynas said that the company developed Nytex 846 to support the continuing challenge the tire industry faces to meet the growing demand to enhance fuel economy without compromising on wet grip or wear.
Nytex 846 is made using state-of-the-art hydrotreating technology, and its polarity ensures that it works well in tandem with a wide range of polymers, including natural rubber (functionalized, solution, and emulsion), SBR, polybutadiene rubber, and halobutyl rubber, as well as EPDM. Thus it is a versatile product that can be used for a wide range of applications.
The new product has a viscosity within the Bright stock range and a high flashpoint for safe processing. This makes Nytex 846 very useful for high-temperature curing operations in EPDM applications. Initial testing points to good performance and high-compatibility with other components.
Dr Mika Lahtinen, global technical manager for tire and rubber applications at Nynas said that the glass transition temperature of Nytex 846 is -46°C . He said that in-house tests have shown that Nytex 846 can help to reduce the rolling-resistance of tires, while also improving traction at low-temperatures.
Nytex 846 is designed to meet the present and foreseeable health, safety and environmental demands of legislative bodies around the globe, including all requirements on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
The product will be available globally through Nynas’s extensive distribution network.
