Nexen Tire has announced that two of its tyres have won the prestigious International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). These awards are given by the Industrial Designers Society of America and is one of the most well known design competitions in the world. They are also known as the ‘Academy Awards’ of the designing industry. Along with the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ and the ‘IF Design Award’ in Germany, the IDEA design awards are the most coveted awards in the design industry.
Nexen won the 2017 IDEA design awards for its ‘N’FERA AU7’ and ‘BREATHRE’ tyres. While ‘N’FERA AU7’ is a tire that is an ultra-high performance (UHP) tyre that is commercially available tire product, ‘BREATHRE’ is a future-oriented conceptual tire. ‘N’FERA AU7’ is the first such commercial tire that was selected as the winner of the award. The ‘N’FERA AU7’ is menat for high-end sedans and offers consumers outstanding driving stability, handling and break performance at high speed. Another notable feature of the tyre is the reduced tire noise that is generated during driving.
‘BREATHRE’ is a concept tire which comes with the added benefit of purifying the air. In light of the growing concern about the environment, this tyre that can help minimize issues like air pollution and fine dust proved to be a winner. The tyre has air purifying filters embedded within the tire and these ‘BREATHRE’ filters removes such fine particles from the air and releases the purified air back into the atmosphere. ‘BREATHRE’ was lauded by the jury for suggesting a new paradigm for the tire industry.
Commenting on the awards, Kyung Woo Cheon, Executive Vice President of R&D at Nexen Tiresaid that the IDEA design awards highlighted the competitiveness of the products made by Nexen Tire. He added that Nexen Tire will continue to lead the industry with differentiated product competitiveness, in addition to the innovative and active strategies.
Nexen Tire has won many design awards this year including the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ from Germany, ‘A Design Award’ from Italy, ‘Good Design Award,’ ‘Green Design Award’ from America and ‘European Design Award.
