Michelin had presented the new Michelin X Line Energy Front and Michelin X Line Energy D2 tires with great fanfare at the IAA 2014 international exhibition. These tires are now available for customers of the 2016 range of Actros trucks from Mercedes-Benz. These trucks are scheduled to hit the retail market from January 2016. From the range, Mercedes has selected the Michelin X Line Energy Front tire in 385/55R22.5 size and Drive in 315/70R22.5 size for the new Actros trucks.
Michelin has achieved a significant milestone by getting the A-rating for energy efficiency confirming to European labeling standards for the complete Michelin X Line Energy range as it is the first such entire rig fitment to get this rating. The range has tires for the steering axle, the drive axle and the trailer axles with Front, D2 and Trailer variants.
Over 700,000 tires belonging to the range have been sold since it was launched in January 2013. Over the past two years, long distance truckers have made significant cost savings by using tires from the Michelin X Line Energy range.
With the recognition of the Michelin range as the first fitments on the market with AAA rating for rolling resistance when it comes to tires for every axle, truckers can will now be able to save 1 liter of fuel every 100 km. they will also be able to cut down their carbondioxide emissions by 2.66 kg for every 100 kilometers (according to tests which compared them to Michelin’s own Line Energy tires with BBA rating.
These figures translate into average savings of 1610 Euros in fuel and reduction of 3724 kg in CO2 emissions over the normal life of the tires, before they are either retreaded or regrooved. The use of Michelin X Line Energy range tires by truckers definitely marks a more sustainable approach to trucking in the long run.
