Cooper Tire has announced that as part of its Cooper SEVERE Series range, it has launched a a new mixed service wide base all-position (WBA) tire . The new Cooper SEVERE Series WBA tire has the capability to handling the harsh operating conditions found in construction truck applications – especially mixers and dump trucks while also providing the benefit of long miles to removal. It is available in 385/65R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 sizes, in load range L.
Commenting on the new tire, Gary Schroeder, Executive Director of Cooper’s Global Truck and Bus Tire Business said that with the launch of this tire, Cooper continues to broaden its signature line of truck and bus radial (TBR) tires. He added that Cooper’s SEVERE Series range, which now includes the WBA comprises tires which offer exceptional performance while also providing customers with a low cost of ownership proposition. The WBA is positioned as a premium tire that is specifically engineered to provide vehicles like running mixers and dump trucks with a tire that has the power to outperform others at its price point.
The Cooper SEVERE Series WBA comes with a five-rib design with 23/32nds of tread sports a unique zigzag rib in the center. The tire is also noticeable for its high levels of traction and cornering in slippery construction site conditions. Made of special cut, chip and chunk resistant compounds and featuring Cooper’s Scrub Guard technology the tire has the capability to tolerate a good deal of scrubbing, curbs, and other obstacles that are typically encountered during operations. The outcome is a longer tire life and ability to maintain casing integrity over a longer period .
Said Schroeder, “Since many of our customers run 80 to 90 percent on-road, with the other duty cycles off-road in quarries and on gravel roads, the tire must give optimal performance in both driving conditions. And it does. We balance tire life – long miles to removal – with a durable tire that holds up against the toughest of conditions.”
The Cooper SEVERE Series WBA tire has notched circumferential ribs and stone ejector ledges to minimize and prevent the penetration of sharp rocks and stones. The grooved walls feature a dual “shelf” to aid in tread stability as it can reduce the squirm factor when cornering while also providing additional stone protection. Tie bars serve to stabilize the center rib and thus enhance driving performance, and a five-inch steel band reinforcement in the lower sidewall provides reinforcement and casing durability.
The tire features a strong four-belt casing design to help ensure multiple retreads, while Cooper’s industry-leading seven-year, two-retread warranty provides added confidence to buyers.
