Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has announced that it has finalized a a multi-year manufacturing offtake agreement with Sailun Vietnam Co., Ltd. for the production of Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) tires. This will help Cooper to meet the demand in this segment on a global basis. As an outcome of the offtake agreement, Cooper will have a third global source of TBR tire production in order to cater to the growing demand in this segment. Sailun will manufacture the tires for Cooper under the Roadmaster, Dean and Starfire brands.
Commenting on the agreement with Sailun, Brad Hughes, Cooper President & Chief Executive Officer said that Cooper has been expanding its TBR business in both the replacement and original equipment segments. Sailun will be manufacturing the TBR tires for Cooper at its state-of-the-art factory in Tay Ninh, Vietnam under the supervision of an experienced team which will be committed to outstanding product quality.
In addition to the manufacturing offtake agreement with Sailun, Cooper also announced its plans to open a distribution center dedicated to TBR tires for the North American market. The 400,000-square-foot facility, which Cooper will lease, will be opened in San Bernardino, California in spring 2018 and will help Cooper to increase the speed and efficiency with which Cooper serves its TBR customers in North America.
