During the 15th edition of the Volkswagen Group Awards, Bridgestone was one of seven carefully selected VW Group suppliers which received a Volkswagen Group Award in the category of Innovation & Technology.
The Volkswagen Group Award was presented by Matthias Müller, CEO of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, and Dr. Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, Group Board of Management member with responsibility for Procurement. Paolo Ferrari, CEO & President of Bridgestone EMEA received the award on behalf of Bridgestone.
Commenting on the award at the gala event, Garcia Sanz commended all the winners and extended his gratitude to all of them and their employees for their quality and performance during 2016. He emphasized that concepts like autonomous driving, new mobility services, digitalization throughout the value chain and e-mobility and battery technology were not passing fads but were concepts that are here to stay and point to the future of the automotive industry. He lauded the winners for collaborating with Volkswagen in exploring new pathways.
On receiving the award, Paolo Ferrari said on behalf of Bridgestone that Bridgestone teams worldwide were honoured by winning the prestigious award for Innovation & Technology. Innovation is based on change and calls for significant technology upgrades. Bridgestone, as a leader in the tyre industry is for us considers this to be an opportunity to learn and innovate in order to stay ahead of technology curve, along with partners like the Volkswagen Group.
Bridgestone is also a proud member of the FAST initiative. Volkswagen started its FAST initiative in 2015. As part of this initiative, a small circle of selected suppliers have regular access to top decision-makers in the VW Group, so that everyone can work together on implementing innovations faster and more efficiently. Bridgestone is the only tyre company that has been chosen to be part of this select group comprising 55 suppliers.
