Leading tire manufacturer, Bridgestone Corporation has received an award from Honda Motor Co., Ltd in recognition of its efforts to minimize damage to the environment and promote sustainability. Yutaka Yamaguchi, Vice President of Bridgestone and Senior Officer Responsible for Safety, Disaster Prevention and Quality Bridgestone received the award on behalf of Bridgestone from Hiroshi Saito, Honda Motor’s General Manager of the Purchasing Global Operations Planning Office (Worldwide) at a ceremony that was held at Bridgestone’s plant in Tochigi on February 18. In addition to the award, Bridgestone also received a certificate of commendation. This award marks the first time Bridgestone has received such an award from Bridgestone.
The award was given to Bridgestone as part of the Honda Excellence Appreciation Awards, which Honda presents annually to suppliers for outstanding performance with regard to five distinct areas. The Environmental Award is generally given to the company that exhibits the best performance when it comes to adhering to Honda Green Purchasing Guidelines, and engages in projects to minimize the environmental impact of its products during their lifetime. One notable initiative taken by Bridgestone was its drive to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases throughout the entire lifecycle of Bridgestone tires, including the manufacturing process.
On receiving the award, Yamaguchi commented that Bridgestone was extremely honored to be selected as the recipient of the Environmental Award from Honda Motor. He added that Bridgestone has established long-term environmental targets right up to 2050 in a bid to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. These targets are based on the company’s Environmental Mission Statement, and Bridgestone is also promoting group-wide environmental activities in order to achieve these targets. He concluded by saying that in the forthcoming years, Bridgestone will continue to advance environmental activities that span the entire supply chain and extend to its business partners and customers, in order to help realize a sustainable society.
