BKT is in the news for developing a tire that has been specially designed for a record-breaking Fastrac tractor. The tractor which is made by JCB had entered the Guinness World Records by setting a new speed record of 135.191 mph (217.568 km/h) and BKT played a key role in helping JCB to achieve the record-breaking feat by using its expertise to develop special tires for the 1,016 hp Fastrac tractor.
JCB had made innovative modifications to the chassis and powertrain as part of its drive to break the record. The tractor was fitted with a tire that was specially developed by BKT. The tire had the capability to tolerate high-speed runs in excess of speeds of 150 mph (241 km/h).
To develop the customized tire, BKT’s team worked closely with JCB’s engineering team to create a tractor tire that was technically advanced enough to handle extreme speeds and loads. The tire that BKT supplied for the tractor is a specially constructed 400/80 R 28 RIDEMAX IT 696, and was based on a tire that is normally used for industrial applications and is capable of tolerating speeds of up to 65 km/h on paved surfaces.
The most notable features of this tire include outstandingly low rolling resistance and this in turn translates into greater fuel efficiency thus offering both economic and environmental advantages.
