The Chairman of Apollo Tyres Ltd., Onkar S Kanwar recently received the Officers Cross (Civilian Division) of the ‘Order of Merit’ of Hungary. Kanwar received this award in recognition of the work that he has done to strengthen economic relations between Hungary and India.
Apollo has made significant investments in Hungary and has thus helped create many new jobs.
This decoration was first awarded by the President of the Republic of Hungary, Janos Ader, on the recommendation of the Hungarian Prime Minister. H E Gyula Petho, Ambassador of Hungary to India.

Apollo Tyres has invested Euro 475 million in the greenfield tire manufacturing facility it has set up in Gyongyoshalasz, Hungary. The factory specializes in the manufacture of passenger car and commercial vehicle tires.
The greenfield factory currently has a workforce of 800 people. Of this workforce, almost 95 per cent are locals. The plant in Gyongyoshalasz is Apollo Tyres’ second production facility in Europe, and its sixth on a global basis. Apollo continues to ramp up its production capacity at this facility, and has ambitious plans to reach the planned production levels for Phase I by 2019.
