Texas Instruments (TI) never rests on its laurels. Just recently, the company has rolled out a 2.2-MHz, dual-channel synchronous buck converter with a distinct suite of features designed to greatly minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and high-frequency noise in high-voltage DC/DC step-down applications such as high-end cluster power-supply and automotive infotainment systems.
LM5140-Q1 boasts a wide 3.8-V to 65-V operating range that handles start-stop and load-dump conditions for 12-V/24-V lead-acid and emerging 48-V Li-ion automotive batteries. Its 2.2-MHz operation with external synchronization capability helps move switching noise above the sensitive AM band, hence eliminating the need for frequency hopping. Moreover, there is also a unique, adjustable gate-drive slew-rate control that reduces EMI emissions by up to 10 dB with less than one percent reduction in efficiency, which in turn cuts external EMI filtering, streamlines conformity to CISPR 25 automotive EMI requirements, and saves printed circuit board (PCB) area.
LM5140-Q1’s low 35-uA quiescent current (IQ) in standby prolongs battery life in “always on” applications. It also includes dual outputs with phase interleaving and is offered in wettable flank packaging that speeds production.
Along with TI’s WEBENCH® Automotive Design tool, the all-new LM5140-Q1 helps engineers to get their automotive designs to market faster.
