SAIC Motor has announced that it will be collaborating with China Mobile to co-develop China’s first volume 5G ICV (Internet-connected vehicle) model. The two companies signed a strategic cooperation agreement on November 6 and have set themselves the ambitious goal of upgrading ICV technologies and thus giving fresh impetus to the auto industry in China with 5G communication technology.
As part of the new agreement, SAIC and China Mobile will develop an ICV model based on tailor-made services and ecosystem that is meant for vehicle-using scenarios and thus actively promote the mass production of the first 5G ICV. In order to offer mobility services abroad, the two companies will jointly work on data management and operation and car-borne network access.
SAIC Motor and China Mobile plan to build a space-ground integrated positioning enhancement network which will make it possible for applications related to intelligent driving and mobile travelling to access a high-precision positioning feature. They will also jointly develop and operate an intelligent mobility service cloud platform and share the relevant data.
The two companies plan on using 5G technologies to digitalize the facilities for intelligent factories with the goal of promoting industrial network construction for intelligent manufacturing businesses. They will also work on intelligent research and semantic analysis based on cloud computing technology and big data.
