In its quest to develop an open-source software platform for smart cars, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is tying up with engineering consulting firm Altran.
The platform is anticipated to combine engineering and industrial techniques with the methods, processes and tools utilized in the consumer electronics industry, which can possibly transform Electrical and Electronic (E/E) automotive architectures.
According to Altran Europe senior executive vice-president Cyril Roger, JLR and Altran have been joining forces for the past five years on a number of projects, and this collaboration is the formalization of the commercial and technical perspective both companies have on this key technical domain. He added that it supports Altran’s new strategic direction in speeding up innovation, and is enabling its partners to do the same. “The company is moving towards a whole new model of co-innovation to bring more value, assets and expertise across industries to its customers.”
The groundbreaking technology is anticipated to make way for the development of an ecosystem of new applications for the automotive industry.
