Hyundai Motor Group used its participation in the International Powertrain Conference in Korea to unveil its future powertrain development strategy.
At the conference, the company highlighted and displayed the first four engines and two transmissions that will be a part of its forthcoming “Smart Stream” Powertrains. The technology used in the new range includes several technological innovations and was developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s award-winning team of engineers.
The outcome of these technological innovations is lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions. Hyundai is planning to use these new powertrains and engines for all its new models though the range will first make its appearance with the launch of the 1.6-liter petrol and diesel Smart Stream engines.
The new range will include petrol and diesel engines with significantly better engine efficiency, as well as new plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains.
Hyundai first unveiled the Smart Stream powertrains at the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show, and they will help the Korean car manufacturer to confirm to changes in the norms for emissions as well as cater to the demand from customers for vehicles that are fun to drive.
The word ‘Smart’ implies being smart in design, control, and operation, while ‘Stream’ refers to dynamic movement of mobility.
Other new products in the Smart Stream range include the Smart Stream eight-speed wet Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT), which optimize the shift response unlike conventional automatic transmissions. The eight-speed gearing and high-efficient hydraulic system deliver the twin benefits of faster acceleration performance and excellent fuel economy.
By 2022, Hyundai Motor Group aims to develop an all-new Smart Stream powertrain line-up comprising 10 gasoline engines, six diesel engines, and six transmissions.
