Leading manufacturer of auto components for car interiors, Grupo Antolin has announced that the company will be setting up a new plant in Michigan. The Spanish company said that the USD 61.2 million factory in suburban Detroit, which is currently under construction will employ 430 people.
Groupo Antolin has formed a new subsidiary named Antolin Shelby Inc. which will lease the 350,000-square-foot facility in Shelby Township, Michigan. The company will receive subsidy to the tune of USD 3.6 million in the form of a performance-based grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
The plant is opting for a new plant as its current factories are working at full capacity, based on details in a Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Grupo Antolin has its North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan and already has factories in the United States in Wayne, Marlette, Warren, Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri.
Group Antolin had acquired the interiors business of Magna International in 2015 in a USD 525 million deal and this is why the company has to expand its manufacturing capacity. The Magna unit comprised 36 manufacturing operations and about 12,000 employees in Europe, North America and Asia.
Earlier in 2017, Groupo Antolin had announced that it would sell its seating business to Lear Corporation in a USD 307 million deal. This deal is expected to become final by June 30.
