Geotab, which is one of the top players in the field of IoT and connected transportation has developed an integrated solution for Ford vehicles. The company has integrated 0vehicle data into the ‘MyGeotab’ platform, and according to Ford, through such a solution fleet managers can gain access to one dedicated portal. The portal would have powerful tools which can process data from vehicles with an embedded modem as well as those which require a third-party device.
As an outcome of this integration, ‘Ford Data Services’ can securely transfer data from Ford vehicles having a factory-installed modem (or Ford Plug-In Modem) to Geotab’s cloud environment. This eliminates the need for third-party hardware, which might not be so secure in Ford vehicles. Thus, fleet managers, even in the case of mixed fleets can use the portal to oversee their entire fleet and they would also have access to the Geotab Marketplace, a portfolio of mobile apps, hardware ‘Add-Ons’ and software ‘Add-Ins’ which would make it possible for Geotab customers to further customize their fleet management solution.
Michelle Moody, director at Ford Commercial Solutions said that Ford Data Services provides the ‘Power of Choice’. Businesses can get manufacturer-grade vehicle information from the telematics provider they opt for, like Geotab. With the launch of Geotab Integrated Solution for Ford Vehicles, fleet managers can get data related to their vehicles like fuel usage, vehicle health and driver behavior, through the Geotab platform for vehicles with a Ford modem.
Using this solution from Geotab, fleet managers can gain access to rich, proprietary, Ford-specific data which would be available for all Ford 2020 or newer models in the United States.
Commenting on the collaboration, Geotab’s Sherry Calkins, vice president, strategic partners said, “The Geotab Integrated Solution for Ford Vehicles will allow fleet managers to benefit from the combination of Geotab’s actionable data insights and powerful rules engine with the rich diagnostic data from Ford’s factory-fitted modem. This means that regardless of whether they are utilizing an embedded or externally installed telematics solution, the entire fleet can be managed from one platform.”
