Reports say that Ford has invested $182.2m in technology company Pivotal to accelerate cloud-based software development. Based in San Francisco, the company is a top-notch cloud-based software company that speeds up digital transformation for enterprises.
Ford’s investment in the company is aimed at driving the American automaker’s transformation to an auto and a mobility company. Ford says that it will continue to focus on and invest in its key business which comprises designing, production, marketing, financing, as well as servicing cars, trucks, SUVs and electrified vehicles. The automaker targets to spearhead the industry in terms of mobility, connectivity, customer experience, self-driving vehicles, and data and analytics.
Just recently, Ford collaborated with Pivotal to offer FordPass, an advanced consumer experience platform unveiled last month.
The platform is designed to offer new customer services such as remote access to vehicles through a smartphone app and mobility solutions such as car sharing and parking.
In a statement, Ford president and CEO Mark Fields, noted that expanding their business to be both an auto and mobility firm needs leading-edge software expertise to deliver excellent customer experiences. “Our investment in Pivotal will help strengthen our ability to deliver these customer experiences at the speed of Silicon Valley, including continually expanding FordPass – our digital, physical and personal mobility experience platform.”
According to Pivotal CEO Rob Mee, they are partnering with iconic firms such as Ford to help transform their businesses with their distinctive software development methodology and modern cloud platform and analytics tools.
