Just recently, Elsoft Research Bhd has announced production of around 40 units of LED test equipment with an approximate market value of RM20mil in the first half of this year.
In a statement, CEO CE Tan said that the LED test equipment is designed for customers in the automotive, smart device and general lighting sectors. He noted that the 40 units to be manufactured is a double-digit percentage growth over the volume of the previous year’s corresponding period, noting that automotive and smart device industries are the key sector driving the growth. Tan also added that for the smart device segment, the group is now developing LED test equipment to be used for checking the lighting functions of new smart devices slated for launch in the latter part of this year.
“For the automotive sector, we are making LED testers for the daytime running lights, new LED headlamps and rear-end signature lightings for branded cars. Our automotive customers are mainly based in Malaysia, China and Taiwan.”
For the fiscal year which ended in December of last year, the group attained a new record for its bottom line and revenue. It successfully posted RM26mil in net profit on the back of a RM49.7mil revenue, compared with RM20mil and RM45mil, respectively in 2014.
A recent report by Grand View Research forecasts that the automotive lighting will reach US$34.65bil by 2022 from US$19.64bil in 2014, increasing at a CAGR of 7.4 percent.
The report indicates that growing safety concerns and strict government regulations are anticipated to drive demand over the next seven years. It also mentioned that growing awareness among consumers regarding the significance of adaptive light solutions such as dynamic bend lights and glare-free high beam is expected to drive exterior lighting demand.
