The two companies have finalized the Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership agreement as part of which they have formalized a business structure to evaluate and explore opportunities to collaborate on developing and introducing new diesel and diesel-based powertrains across global markets.
Through this partnership, Isuzu and Cummins will pool the technical expertise of both companies to develop market-leading architectures that will help them cater better to the needs of customers around the world. The two partners have agreed to form an alliance board and assign a team of dedicated individuals from each company to closely examine potential opportunities to work together in the areas of product technology development, procurement and manufacturing.
Commenting on the partnership, Tom Linebarger, chairman and CEO, Cummins said that with Cummins marking 100 years of innovation, the company continues to seek opportunities to build global relationships with companies that share its focus on innovation and have similar values. The partnership with Isuzu will serve as an opportunity for both companies to use their respective strengths and create new opportunities for expanding the product portfolio they provide to their customers.
Masanori Katayama, president and representative director – Isuzu Motors said, “Isuzu and Cummins recognise that the advanced diesel engine is, and will continue to be, an important power choice for global customers in commercial vehicle and industrial applications. This is especially true in developed countries where power sources are used for high-intensity operations, as well as in emerging countries where social infrastructure conditions are severe.
Both companies continue to innovate and advance the diesel engine in terms of different criteria like power, quality, emissions and fuel efficiency. They expect diesel to continue to be a primary power solution in many markets.
