Bosch has ramped up its expertise in automated vehicles by acquiring a stake in TetraVue, one of the leading companies in the field of ultra-high resolution 3D data and imagery. This kind of technology can add to the capabilities of self-driving vehicles. With this acquisition, Robert Bosch Venture Capital has now added one more company to its growing portfolio of companies in the field of sensors and software for automated vehicles.
Speaking about the acquisition, Dr. Ingo Ramesohl, managing director at RBVC said that the company was excited to have TetraVue as a strategic extension of its portfolio, which also contains companies dealing with similar technologies like AIMotive and Chronocam.
Paul Banks, founder and president of TetraVue said that TetraVue has already benefited to a significant extent from Bosch’s knowledge and expertise and now with RBVC on board as a lead investor and partner will benefit from greater customer, supplier and investor access.”
TetraVue’s specializes in technology that can help solve challenges which are normally faced by automated vehicles when they need to tackle unexpected and dangerous obstacles during operation. This acquisition will help Bosch in its drive to enhance the development of the automated car industry.
Bosch Ventures managing director Luis Llovera said that TetraVue is the frontrunner in the three-dimensional Flash LiDAR space when compared to other current players. This technology could eventually play a crucial role in the enhancement and development of the automated car industry that can shape the future of transportation in the long run.
‘Light Slicer’ technology
TetraVue’s main advantage is its patented ‘light slicer’ technology, which uses time and distance measurements to measure optical intensities using standard CMOS sensors. This innovative approach offers automotive manufacturers many benefits including higher reliability to meet automotive requirements, low latency, and the ability to produce ultra-high resolution images for a wider range of distances at a lower cost.
