The outbreak of the Novel Corona virus (2019-nCoV) in China has drawn attention on a global scale. Didi Chuxing (“DiDi”) and its driver-partners took their own measures to fight the outbreak by deploying two special fleets to serve the public after the city stopped conventional public transit and ride-hailing services on January 24 in response to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.
Didi consulted with the local authorities and medical personnel working for a number of hospitals before deploying a special fleet of DiDi drivers who were equipped with protection gear. The fleet which was deployed comprised vehicles which are regularly disinfected and offered free transportation to all hospital staff in Wuhan on a 24 x 7 basis.
In addition to the fleet for the transportation of medical personnel, Didi also deployed a community service fleet supported by 1,336 ride-hailing volunteer drivers to cater to the needs of local authorities and neighborhood committees. Earlier, authorities had announced plans to assemble a taxi fleet of 6,000 to meet the mobility needs of Wuhan citizens.
DiDi said that it would continue to dedicate its best efforts to help the spread of the Corona virus while minimizing the risk to the health and safety of drivers and partners. DiDi also expressed its gratitude to all the medical personnel and its driver-partners who were fighting the outbreak on the frontline.
From the time that the virus made its appearance, DiDi has been distributing face masks and disinfectants to drivers across China. All DiDi drivers and passengers are urged to wear a mask, and drivers are required to disinfect and ventilate their vehicles regularly.
