Rolls Royce has created an elegant luggage set to complement its most powerful model, the Wraith. The collection consisting of two Grand Tourer valises, three Long Weekender bags and one Garment Carrier was conceived by Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer Michael Bryden and designed by the company’s Director of Design, Giles Taylor in the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Design Studio. The entire set has been designed to be accommodated in the Wraith’s luggage compartment. Just like in the case of Rolls-Royce motor cars, customers can choose to customize their luggage collection based on their inpidual preferences.
The design team conferred with Head Butlers from some of the most renowned hotels in the world to ensure that the set is the last word in luxury. For leading businessmen and entrepreneurs who are almost always on the go, their luggage not only expresses their style but also serves as the carrier of their wardrobe from home.
Hence the team paid meticulous attention to parts that are handled often. In order to minimize pressure on the hand, the handles were designed for optimum weight distribution. The same invisible stitch that has been used on the steering wheel of Wraith is used to provide the set with a smooth finish.
In an effort to emulate the design of Rolls-Royce models which are known for their combination of style and state-of-the-art engineering, the design team used rapid prototyping to test the ergonomics of the handle of the Long Weekender and to ensure that it can be carried effortlessly. The fastenings are discrete and dock magnetically, to give optimum resistance to the piece which has been crafted from a solid billet of machine polished aerospace-grade aluminium, that is inspired by the Wraith’s silhouette.
Commenting on the collection, Michael Bryden, Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer said that each of the six pieces have been carefully designed to reflect the unrivalled design aesthetics of Rolls-Royce motor cars. The company has used the latest technologies and materials along with traditional crafts and techniques to create an elegant and contemporary luggage collection that has been designed exclusively for Wraith, which is positioned as the ultimate gentleman’s gran turismo. Each piece has also been embossed the Spirit of Ecstasy, the figure of a flying lady that has graced the bonnet of every Rolls-Royce car from 1911. The Grand Tourer has strategically placed wheels for a high level of stability with self-righting wheel centers having the Rolls-Royce double-R emblem.
All the pieces have been fashioned from carbon fiber due to its durability and light weight. The stowage capability of the luggage has been maximized with a wide-set handle and a high-sided design.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, added, “Michael Bryden’s creation of this Bespoke Luggage collection demonstrates our designers’ commitment to Sir Henry Royce’s manifesto, “Take the best that exists, and make it better. When it does not exist, design it”. Not satisfied with creating a contemporary luggage collection with all the hallmarks of true luxury, the design team have gone one step further, in creating a Bespoke collection that not only speaks of contemporary elegance, but also serves to be a pleasure to use.”
The Garment Carrier is a sleek and slim-lined carrier that fits effortlessly on top of the Long Weekenders and Grand Tourers and can accommodate a gentleman’s shirt and tuxedo or a ladies gown. It also comes with a loop for a silk tie or scarf.
The master craftspeople who made the Wraith Luggage Collection used white gloves in order to protect the leather. Customers can opt for either a mono or a striking two-tone leather finish and can also personalize the set to match the interiors of their Wraith. The Rolls-Royce leather is hand-stitched using the same color thread as featured in the owner’s motor car and lined with a monogrammed lining discreetly featuring the Rolls-Royce emblem.
The Wraith Luggage Collection is now available from Rolls-Royce Dealerships.
