Range Rover is about to become a lot more exclusive. Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the Evoque and Velar, the two cheapest Range Rovers, will be discontinued during 2027 with no direct replacements. For many UAE drivers, those two cars were the way into the Range Rover brand. Here is what is changing, what replaces them, and what it means if you are thinking of buying one.
Quick Highlights
- Evoque and Velar production ends during 2027, with no new generations planned
- The all-electric Range Rover GT arrives in 2027 as the new entry point, at a much higher price
- Range Rover’s lineup shrinks to three models: Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the GT
- Defender and Discovery will cover the more affordable end of JLR’s range
- No UAE-specific announcement on the GT or final Evoque and Velar orders yet
What Has Been Confirmed?
Range Rover’s managing director, Martin Limpert, told Autocar that neither a third-generation Evoque nor a second-generation Velar is in development. JLR has since confirmed that both models will stay on sale in selected global markets where demand remains strong throughout 2027, with production ending as its factories switch to building new vehicles. Reports differ on whether production stops in mid-2027 or by year-end, so the exact date is not clear. The Discovery Sport is also reported to end production this year.
Why Is Range Rover Dropping Them?
The change is part of JLR’s “House of Brands” strategy, which has split Land Rover into three separate brands: Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. Range Rover is being pushed towards a smaller, more exclusive range, while Defender and Discovery will take over the volume end of the market that the Evoque and Velar served. The soon-to-be-unveiled Defender Sport is reported to become the company’s entry-level model.
What Replaces Them: The Range Rover GT
The Range Rover GT was revealed in July as the brand’s fifth model. It is a low, coupe-like electric grand tourer, and Range Rover calls it the most car-like model it has ever built. Key facts so far:
- It is the first model on JLR’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), electric first, with a hybrid to follow later
- All-wheel drive at launch, built at the Halewood plant in the UK
- Production is due in the first half of 2027
- Battery size, range and power figures have not been announced
JLR says the GT is not a direct Velar replacement. It will cost much more: estimates range from about £90,000 to £100,000 (roughly AED 436,000 to AED 485,000 / US$118,800 to US$132,000, at approximate exchange rates). Range Rover has not confirmed any price, and there is no UAE pricing or launch date yet.
What Do the Evoque and Velar Cost in the UAE?
UAE prices vary by listing site and specification. Third-party listings show the 2026 Evoque starting from about AED 185,000 (US$50,374), and the 2026 Velar from about AED 277,600 (US$75,590), rising to about AED 460,000 (US$125,255) for the top Autobiography version. Treat these as indicative and ask the dealer for current prices and any year-end offers.
What UAE Buyers Should Do
- Thinking of buying one? Ask your dealer how long new Evoque and Velar orders will be accepted in the UAE, because JLR has only said they will continue in selected markets.
- Ask about support: check how long parts and service will be available for discontinued models and what the warranty covers.
- Waiting for the GT? It is a different, more expensive car, and there is no UAE price or date yet.
- On a smaller budget? Look at the Defender and Discovery line-up as JLR’s more accessible options.
Final Thoughts
The Evoque and Velar helped bring a whole new group of buyers into the Range Rover brand. With them gone, getting into a Range Rover will cost a lot more. Do you think this is the right move? Tell us in the comments.
