As part of its “Reborn” program, Jaguar Land Rover will for the first time be offering fully restored road ready Jaguar classics for a hefty price. The model that is the first from the Jaguar brand to be chosen for this honor is the Series 1 E-Type. Jaguar Classic will be restoring 10 units of the first-generation E-Types, and these cars will be sold directly to consumers.
The first model to be refurbished is a 1965 model that will be showcased at the Techno-Classica Essen show in Germany. It is a 4.2-liter model that is finished in “Opalescent Gunmetal Grey.” This model was put into storage in 1983 after just 78,000 miles on the odometer. The car was then acquired by Jaguar and the company restored it back to its original factory specifications. Jaguar made it a point to repair and retain as many original parts as possible, and used replacement Jaguar Classic parts as needed. The engine and chassis numbers of the restored car fully match that of the original engine and transmission.
A standard Jaguar car that has been restored to factory specifications will cost at least USD 355,000. A few options are available at additional cost like an upgraded cooling system derived from the one in the Lightweight E-Type, upgraded front brake calipers like those in the Series 2 E-Type and a fully synchromesh transmission for early models which did not have it.
