The victory in the LM GTE Pro category at the Le Mans 2016 race could not have come at a better time for Ford. This is the year in which the American automaker is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its historic 1-2-3 finish in 1966. To mark that milestone win, Ford has created a limited edition all-new 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition. This version of the Ford-GT is meant for the roads but is inspired by the racetrack.
The 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition, just like the GT40 Mark II which came first in 1966 comes with “shadow black” paint having silver stripes. Buyers can choose from matte or gloss finish. Other distinctive features include “frozen white” #2 graphics on the hood and sides, and an exposed carbon fiber package. The 20-in one-piece forged aluminum wheels bearing gold satin clear coat providing the finishing touch.
The interiors match the striking exterior with ebony leather upholstery for the carbon fiber seats, the instrument panel, pillars and headliner. The headrests bear debossed Ford GT logos and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather to match the seats. The black and gold theme continues throughout with gold appliqués and exposed matte carbon fiber on the center console, door sills and air register pods. The “2” appears inside the door, as well as outside, and an identification plate lends authenticity to the unique limited edition.
According to Garen Nicoghosian, the exterior design manager for the car, while the design of the limited edition car was inspired by the GT40 Mark II race car, new styling cues have been used to give a modern touch to the vehicle.
Ford will offer a limited number of Heritage packages exclusively for the GT’s 2017 model year.
